Setup guide

Work through these in order to bring a network onto Swift Fox — from the first pingbox to installing your first customer.

  1. Pingbox and network setup — Deploy the Swift Fox pingbox (VM, Raspberry Pi, cloud tunnel, or embedded device), add device credentials, build your network map, and prepare your MikroTik core router for monitoring and automation.
  2. Traffic shaping and MPLS balancing — Turn on per-customer traffic accounting, enable out-of-band TCP latency monitoring, and set up automatic MPLS/TE traffic balancing across your backhauls.
  3. Paging, inventory, and tools — Set up paging rules and on-call alerting thresholds, define inventory types for tracking gear, and launch Winbox straight from the browser.
  4. Billing setup — Configure billing global settings, tax rates, automatic disconnects, transaction types, credit card and EFT processing, customer statements, and service plans.
  5. Client setup — Configure customer status types, the branded self-service customer portal, bulk customer imports, and phone support integration.
  6. Installing a customer — The five-step customer install workflow: create the account, pre-qualify with a line-of-sight path plot, capture contact information, schedule the install, and add the service plan.

  • Billing and bookkeeping — Bookkeeping workflows in Swift Fox billing: reconciling deposits against your bank, bulk payment entry, collections and accounts receivable, and Canadian EFT batches.
